Position Summary
The Associate Director, Scientific Communications and Publications will contribute to strategic and tactical planning, development and implementation of scientific communications activities, execution of high-quality publications, and production of high-quality written/digital materials that support engagement with external audiences.
This position reports to the Director, Scientific Communications and Publications, and will be located at our headquarters in New Haven, CT or may be performed remotely from a location within the U.S.
Principal Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Publication Development & Management:
- Contribute to the development of the publication plans for individual agents, including
- Assessment of products, competitors, and therapeutic landscape
- Analysis of data and information gaps
- Identification of target audiences
- Mapping of key data releases (primary, secondary) and post-hoc analyses to appropriate congresses and journals to ensure timely data dissemination
- Consideration of publication enhancements, e.g., plain language summaries, visual abstracts
- Lead and manage the execution of publication tactics (e.g., manuscripts, abstracts, posters, oral presentations)
- Lead routine publication team meetings to facilitate strategic discussions/decisions related to publication planning and execution
- Interact with the alliance partner(s) to ensure that compliant publication processes are followed
- Manage publication vendors in all aspects of working relationship
Scientific & Medical Communications:
- Support medical social media channel(s), including
- Development of content calendars
- Execution of content
- Management of review process
- Contribute to the development of scientific content and execution for congress medical communication activities (e.g., medical booth materials and planning)
- Facilitate review and approval of medical communication materials through medical & scientific committee review
- Manage scientific communication vendors in all aspects of working relationship
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years experience in industry supported medical communications, including publications and non-publications deliverables, as part of a medical communications agency or pharmaceutical/biotechnology company.
- Strong planning and organizational skills to prioritize projects
- Advanced computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Experience with medical content management systems (e.g., Datavision, Veeva) and biomedical reference databases (e.g., PubMed, Ovid Medline) preferred
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability and confidence to develop and maintain strong working relationships, and willingness/ability to discuss science and strategy with stakeholders at all levels
Education
- Advanced degree (MS, MPH in life sciences or PharmD, PhD) required
