Salary Range: $58,159.33 To 63,291.04 Annually

 

Summary

The Society for Neuroscience is looking for a self-motivated and agile professional to support our Grants & Development function. The Awards and Grants Specialist has overall responsibility for coordinating SfN’s annual awards and prizes to recognize achievements in neuroscience and for coordinating SfN’s grant management processes. The Specialist facilitates the full cycle for each of SfN’s 18 annual named awards and prizes, including promotion, nomination, selection, notification, presentation, and reporting, with special emphasis on engaging staff and volunteers across the organization. The Specialist also tracks and monitors SfN’s grants from government and foundation sources, ensures reporting to funding agencies, and assists with prospect research and proposal development to new funders.

 

You’re responsible for:

Awards Coordination: 

  • Project-manages the annual cycle for 18 named awards and prizes, including planning needs prior to nominations, promotion and advertising, nominations, review and selection, notification, and presentation and recognition of awards at SfN’s annual meeting. 
  • Facilitates workflow and logistics related to several SfN travel and trainee award programs, which may include SfN member travel awards, partner travel awards, and/or early-career trainee awards. 
  • Liaises with and provides guidance to internal teams and external vendors on all aspects of promotion, marketing, advertising, and process management. 
  • Plans and coordinates the Award & Prize Recipients Reception event at SfN’s annual meeting. Arranges meetings between awardees and funders and represents department at SfN annual meeting.
  • Serves as main point of contact with subset of portfolio of award funders and ensures stewardship and reporting; supports team on development of any new awards/funders.
  • Generates regular reporting on award demographics and results and keeps award process documents up to date. 
  • Responsible for timely and customer-centered replies to award-related inquiries.  

Grants Management:

  • Manages compilation and submission of reports to funders for SfN’s annual awards as well as for existing grants from federal agencies and private foundations.   
  • Prepares and submits grant requests to corporate and other foundations for support for SfN’s awards.
  • Works with leadership to identify, research, and qualify new grant prospects for SfN priority areas. Helps to research, write, and prepare resulting proposals to federal agencies or private foundations.

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong project or proposal management experience.
  • Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment and to exercise sound judgement
  • Ability to exhibit high-level professionalism when interacting with external constituents and stakeholders including organizational volunteers and committee members, funders and donors, and award recipients.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in project or proposal management, preferably in a professional association, foundation, or other nonprofit and/or development setting.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with review-based processes for grants, awards, and prizes.
