Reporting to the Medical Director – Neurosciences, the Associate Medical Director is responsible for the supporting the development and delivery of the country Medical Affairs strategy for the Jazz Neurosciences portfolio in Canada.  Including the prelaunch and launch phases as well as supporting products in-market and provide support for other Neuroscience products, as assigned.

The Jazz mission is to bring meaningful medicines to patients with high unmet need.  As a key member of the country brand team, the role will demand high levels of cross-functional collaboration and customer orientation. 

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all activities are executed in accordance with regulatory and legal frameworks of Canada, including but not limited to GCP, ICH, PAAB, and IMC codes and regulations, as well as Jazz Pharmaceuticals Policies and Healthcare Compliance procedures

 

Essential Functions           

Country Medical Affairs Plans 

  • Work closely with the Medical Director, Neuroscience to support the development and execution of the country medical Neurosciences strategic plan, ensuring internal and external launch readiness
  • Develop and maintain a detailed scientific knowledge of the relevant therapeutic area(s), Jazz products, market trends, and competitor publications to position him/herself as an expert in the field
  • Review and critically appraise scientific literature to provide support and advice to medical and commercial teams in developing strategy and tactical implementation plans, and optimizing the use of data for competitive product differentiation
  • Provide guidance regarding appropriate speakers for national/international congresses and workshops to expand and enhance high quality scientific exchange
  • Act as reviewer and/or approver of all promotional and medical materials for compliance with the relevant Codes of Practice and Jazz policies and procedures, including verification of scientific accuracy
  • Contribute to the development of and maintain awareness of the competitive landscape and communicate timely intelligence to the medical and commercial team as appropriate
  • Support local adaptation of global training materials and other scientific materials in collaboration with commercial and other appropriate internal stakeholders
  • Provide scientific education and in-house training for MSLs and Key Account Managers and other staff as required
  • Support preparation and customization of clinical data packages for advisory boards, reimbursement dossiers, etc. to deliver scientifically credible information regarding Jazz products

Data Generation and Publication Planning

  • Support the development and execution of Jazz study plans, including phase IV, observational and pharmacoeconomic studies.

External Relationships  

  • Support development of Jazz positioning as the scientific authority in our therapy area
  • Support development of HCP advocacy through provision of scientific and clinical information

Cross-functional collaboration

  • Participate in appropriate cross-functional and cross-company medical, commercial and brand teams to represent Medical Affairs, and inform brand strategies and tactics
  • Participate as appropriate in the Phase IV, RWE, Investigator Sponsored Trial, and educational grant review processes.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Relevant experience (5+ years) in Medical Affairs
  • MSL/medical advisor, or medical director experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry (2+ years)
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to prepare and deliver high quality presentations, and critically analyze and interpret complex scientific and clinical research data
  • Experience in launching new products, market shaping and launch readiness activities, and product lifecycle management in specialty medicine
  • Previous medical affairs or clinical development experience in Neuroscience, with a focus on epilepsy or sleep medicine is preferred
  • Good understanding of Canadian healthcare system, drug development, and regulation of promotional materials and activities
  • Experience in establishing productive relationships with external customers and academic societies
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with flawless execution
  • Strong inter-personal relationship building, collaboration and teamwork skills

 

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

  • MSc, PhD, MD or PharmD preferred
