About the Role
As a Manufacturing Engineer Tech I, you will support the factory floor by ensuring equipment and processes are performing as intended, with a focus on equipment. Daily tasks include responding to problems on the floor and supporting manufacturing engineering (ME). Most of your time is spent on the factory floor working on equipment and engaging with people. The ME team works with Quality and Production to ensure the factory achieves production goals (Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost).
With general supervision, you will work on 2nd shift as part of a technician team in the Core Tech Polymers (CTP) business unit. CTP’s 2nd shift runs from 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm. (Monday – Friday)
CTP is a foundational component producer for the greater BSC network, providing extruded shafts and tubes for assembly into completed products at downstream partners. Equipment used on the CTP floor includes both off-the-shelf and custom-built extruders, pullers/cutters, water baths, payoffs, take-ups, ovens, test equipment, and other ancillary equipment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Troubleshoot and solve equipment and process problems using a basic understanding
- Perform standard/common preventative maintenance tasks on extrusion equipment
- Document common/repeat issues for resolution by the ME team
- Demonstrate familiarity with tooling and fixtures
- Execute simple tooling and equipment qualifications with guidance
- Assist the ME Team in executing Value Improvement Projects (VIP) to improve/revise existing processes for cost savings
- Provide technical support or direction to operators and medical device specialists with assistance
- Periodic mandatory weekend overtime
- Support to start-ups after plant shut-downs (which may include arriving on-site early following a plant shut-down)
Required qualifications:
- 0 years with an AA degree, or an equivalent combination of education/work experience
Preferred qualifications:
- Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Hands-on mechanical skills
- Communicates well in both written and verbal forms
- Six months of work experience or internship in an extrusion factory
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Electro-mechanical troubleshooting experience preferred
- Medical device industry experience preferred
- Control system experience such as PLC
- Experience with mechanical print reading
- Basic understanding of Lean principles
- Hands-on experience with measurement systems, such as calipers, micrometers, tool scopes, etc
