Job Summary
Position Description
Proper connectivity and signaling across regions of the nervous system, whether in the brain or spinal cord, are essential to normal neuronal function yet many brain and spinal circuits remain poorly understood and poorly mapped. The Department of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Dallas seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member with research focus on understanding the connectivity of circuits within the nervous system that are important for sensory, cognitive, or motor function. Expertise in neuroanatomy of such circuits as well as technical expertise in circuit manipulation using opto/chemogenetics and tracing/activity-recording techniques such as in vivo multiphoton or miniscope imaging of reporter expression in live animals would be desirable. This faculty member would be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses on neural circuitry and the use of advanced imaging and opto/chemogenetic techniques.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in Neurobiology or a related field and demonstrate their commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service, which includes a strong commitment to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. All candidates are expected to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals of diverse backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. The appointment commences in the fall of 2023. A doctoral degree is required prior to joining; those with ABD status will be considered at the application/interviewing stage. Candidates should also show evidence of a dynamic and productive research program with clear potential for funding.
