The Neuromuscular Research Laboratory (NMRL)/Warrior Human Performance Research Laboratory (WHPRC) is looking for a Research Assistant (RA) with a physiology, neuroscience, or kinesiology background and interest in human performance optimization research. The RA will be involved in data collection, analysis, and logistical support for DoD-funded research that seeks to determine if non-invasive brain stimulation can be used to change hormones important for physical and cognitive performance in health and disease. The RA will help with participant relations/scheduling, experimental procedures, and sample/data processing and analysis. Examples of typical work include placement of physiological sensors (e.g. EMG, ECG, EDA, blood pressure) and signal acquisition, administering surveys, completing study documentation, supporting transcranial magnetic stimulation and magnetic resonance imaging procedures, assisting with phlebotomy procedures (e.g. blood collection and pre-processing), and helping with physiological signal processing/analysis and blood sample analysis. We are seeking a reliable and adaptive individual with strong interpersonal skills. The work schedule will depend on participant availability, so flexibility is crucial.

Qualifications – External

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience;
  • flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and different schedules from week to week in general;
  • desire to work with human subjects/samples;
  • excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with neurophysiology, neuroimaging, biochemistry, physical performance testing, kinesiology, signal processing, coding, or data analysis is desirable, but the RA will have many opportunities to learn.

The RA will typically work in collaboration with other members of the laboratory including doctoral and master’s students, post-doctoral researchers, research coordinators, program managers, and the principal investigator. The candidate will have to pass research certification modules for HIPPA and IRB, as well as possible military security clearance.
