ZEISS is looking for an Application Engineer – EM to join the team at the state-of-the-art ZEISS Microscopy Customer Center, equipped with our latest light, electron, and X-ray microscopes. The Applications Engineer position is a highly skilled and technical specialist position utilizing application knowledge to support the sales process. This role is specifically geared towards cryo FIB-SEM application expertise and implementing the ZEISS Cryo Workflow. The scope of the role includes providing technical and application-related needs assessment, customer sample imaging, proof of concept demonstrations, and customer training.

Success requires strong technical knowledge of FIB-SEM especially in life science cryo applications and associated sample preparation methods. Excellent communications & time management skills, along with the ability to learn quickly and work in a highly collaborative environment are essential. At all times, conduct in accordance with company guidelines and standards is expected.

 

In this position you will:

  •  Work with ZEISS electron microscopes to acquire high-quality data for customers to drive EM business in North America
  •  Collaborate with the account managers and marketing team to conduct proof of concept demonstrations and sample runs 
  •  Build reports from the demonstrations and sample runs to promote our EM product lines
  •  Train our customers both in-field (US & Canada) and using virtual methods to effectively use the EM
  •  Provide technical support to our field sales team and customers to ensure their success
  •  Maintain the electron microscopes at the ZMCC Bay Area and ensure high performance by working with the in-house service team
  •  Collaborate with local and global product teams to develop competitive strategies and share knowledge across teams
  •  Develop expertise in correlative light electron microscopy techniques
  •  Work closely with the applications team to advance software solutions for targeted FIB-SEM workflows under Cryo
  •  Work with cutting edge microscopes, interact with people, and are organized and motivated to support customer success

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or higher in Biological Sciences, Neuroscience or Engineering fields, preferably from an accredited college or university
  • Strong experience in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Cryo FIB-SEM, preferably greater than 3+ years of hands-on experience using vacuum equipment in industry or academia
  • Proven expertise in cryo sample preparation techniques and imaging methods
  • Skills in machine learning-based image segmentation is advantageous
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Implementation of MS Office, related software, and strong presentation skills is required
  • A positive “can do” attitude coupled with a willingness to continuously acquire product and application knowledge independently
  • Willing to travel 25% of the time to customer sites to support installation and training
