About the Director, Cloud Engineering at Headspace:

The Cloud Engineering team at Headspace owns and operates the shared services, tools, frameworks, and processes to enable all Cloud Infrastructure and Site Reliability tactics.

This team works in a federated model with other teams to architect, deploy, build, and scale their applications in the AWS cloud quickly, securely, and reliably.  They are responsible for the management and automation of all AWS resources, including monitoring, reporting, and enhancements. Reporting to the VP of Internal Engineering, this is a highly hands-on technical management role with a team of 8-10 engineers. 

 

How your skills and passion will come to life at Headspace Health:

  • Create a strategic vision for the Cloud Engineering team and design cloud infrastructure to support and advance the vision and business objectives. Contribute to annual operating plans and budgets that support those strategies.
  • Build reusable infrastructure-as-code, continuous deployment, and related systems, with the goal of standardizing, accelerating, and improving robustness of cloud systems.
  • Provide a strong technical voice on the team to ensure secure, reliable, scalable, and maintainable design and architecture.
  • Develop and refine the operational support model(s) for cloud infrastructures and serve as an escalation and coordination point for incidents and critical events. 
  • Maintain a solid understanding of technical trends, evaluate new technologies and initiate and execute projects in support of the vision across supported technical areas.
  • Build a culture of building for reliability by identifying and executing on reliability tactics that help all engineers. 
  • Manage a team of 8-10 engineers, and be fully responsible for their performance and delivery.

 

What you’ve accomplished:

  • 12-15 years of related work experience, with strong experience on AWS cloud.
  • 8+ years of hands-on technical management experience.
  • Exceptional system design abilities which includes experience with architectural patterns of large, high-scale applications.
  • Experience automating infrastructure provisioning and management, using systems like Terraform.
  • Experience with security practices such as Identity & Access Management, data protection, encryption, certificate and key management.
  • Experience with Docker and container based environments. 
  • Backup and disaster recovery experience with an emphasis on site reliability engineering.
  • Experience building an end-to-end observability stack.
  • Ability to thrive in a startup (fast-paced, agile) environment.
  • Actively coached and mentored Sr. Managers and principal level individual contributors.
  • BA/BS degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent experience.
