The Engineering Development Services team is looking for a Machinist III. This is a highly skilled technical position requiring experience in programming, setting up and running all types of machinery related to the machining industry. Must be able to read blueprints and apply knowledge, experience, know-how, ingenuity and innovation to produce/manufacture required machined components. These components can be from simple to very complex.
 
The job work hours are: 1st shift (8 hour shift between the hours of 7:00am-4:30pm)

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required.
  • May modify numerically controlled programs on numerically controlled (NC) machines.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

 

Must Have: Minimum Requirements 

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience of relevant experience and may require vocational or technical education or certification in addition to prior work experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

 

Nice to Have

  • 7+ years of experience in the manufacture of gages, tools, fixtures, or related machining
  • Tool and Die apprenticeship certification or equivalent formal training
  • Understands cutting tool geometry and applications
  • Reads and comprehends advanced blueprints with GD&T.
  • Use surface plate, sine plates, and height gage to setup and verify work
  • Ability to conceptualize and sketch tools, fixtures, and gages
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure and maintain positive, enthusiastic attitude
  • Eagerness to learn and expand responsibilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and to build strong working relationships.
  • Have the willingness to participate in continuous improvement activities
