Summary/Scope of Position

With the fast-expanding field of neuroscience and neural engineering, there is a need for constant development in neurotechnology and tools that support neuroscience research. This position will involve being part of a team that researches the current needs of neuroscience research, designing/developing the technology and products that answer those needs, and supporting researchers who use these tools. Additionally, this position will support the manufacturing operation, thus requiring a close relationship with manufacturing to develop strategies and solutions to production-related issues. The candidate must have a strong understanding of processes related to design and prototyping, V&V testing, transfer of designs to manufacturing, and project management. In addition, experience and understanding of 3D Printing and Design-For-Additive-Manufacturing is essential.

 

Minimum Qualifications for the job include:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-3 years of full-time product design and development experience
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, especially for technical drawing creation
  • Technical writing experience (reports, protocols, work instructions)
  • Experience with SLA and FDM 3D-printed parts, as well as printer operation and upkeep
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, and communication skills
  • Self-driven with a strong desire to make an impact

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals such as statics, dynamics, material mechanics
  • Strong hands-on mechanical skillset and understanding of prototyping and assembly techniques:
    • Broad knowledge of mfg techniques, such as machining, WEDM, laser cutting, etc.
    • Hands-on experience with electronics assembly techniques, such as reflow soldering
    • Hands-on experience with microassembly and working with microscopes
  • Sound design insight, technical judgement, and problem-solving skills in mechanical systems
  • Familiarity working within a QMS (e.g. ISO 13485 or ISO 9001) is a plus
