Description

The Department of Neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of computational neuroscience, broadly defined, who will develop theories of neural processing and computation (expertise in the relationship between natural and artificial intelligence is also desirable). The ideal candidate will bring computational and theoretical advances to bear on experimental data collected in humans and animal models, including non-human primates; techniques used by experimentalists in Penn Neurosurgery include intracranial electrical recording and stimulation and a variety of imaging modalities. The position will include an appointment to Penn’s Computational Neuroscience Initiative (CNI), a long-standing program bridging scientists in the Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Engineering to promote interdisciplinary, quantitative approaches to the study of the brain and mind. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include the opportunity to mentor exceptional graduate and medical trainees with interests in neuroscience, bioengineering, physics, computer science and related fields.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include developing an independent, externally funded research program and collaborating with scientists in Penn Neurosurgery and the CNI.
