About the Role:

Design, develop and conduct research for validating AAV gene therapy candidates for clinical use. Execute experiments and support the validation of novel drug targets via multiple mechanisms. Conducts essential experiments to help determine and characterize mechanism of action (MoA). Analyze and present data to lead scientists in an organized and timely manner. Work will be conducted in a highly collaborative manner to advance the programs through early stages of gene therapy drug discovery and development, including existing programs and the proposal of novel projects.

 

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):

  • Contribute to the design and validation of gene therapy approaches for proof-of-concept studies that will lead to IND-enabled research
  • Work cross-functionally with gene therapy research and development team to achieve projects goals
  • Contribute to the evaluation of emerging molecular biological or biochemical methods
  • Work with the team to initiate and support new platforms, instrumentation, and technologies for gene therapies
  • Phenotype animal behaviors and conduct histology to evaluate the efficacy of gene therapies
  • Optimize specialized assays such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization and multi-plex using automated instruments
  • Analyze histological staining results using qualitative and quantitative methods with particular expertise in neuroanatomy
  • Identifies and resolves technical problems through scientific understanding, options assessment, and application of innovative solutions
  • Prepares clear and concise technical reports and participates in project team discussions
  • Contributes to the decision-making processes within the project team by actively engaging in scientific and technical discussions
  • Executes strategy, vision, and direction set by line management
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • BS/MS in neurobiology, molecular biology, cell biology, or other relevant discipline and 4+ years of laboratory work experience in academia or industry OR
  • Ph.D. in a relevant discipline and some similar experience as noted above
  • Expertise in handling rodents, administering compounds (IV, PO, IP, SC), organ and blood collection, and dissecting tissues during animal necropsies
  • Knowledge of cell and tissue-based histology, including in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence applications, microscopy, and image analysis/processing
  • Experience with a wide array of molecular biology and biochemical techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, q-PCR, dPCR, Western blotting, and ELISA
  • Thorough computer literacy (Word, Excel, Graph Pad Prism, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with rodent surgeries including intracerebral and/or intrathecal injection is preferred
  • Experience with animal behavioral phenotyping is desirable
  • Experience with cell culture and in vitro techniques is a plus
  • A proven ability to be highly productive and successful in an intense work environment with meticulous attention to detail
  • A great team player

  • Ability to follow novel scientific or technological developments, and to implement them in the laboratory

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $84,100.00-$134,700.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 20% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
