Katalyst Surgical, part of the ZEISS Group (www.zeiss.com), is an industry leader in the design, manufacturing, and quality control of ophthalmic and neuro surgical instruments, and is looking for an experienced, hands-on Electrical Engineer/Project Manager to design and develop a device for neurosurgery from a mid-development cycle to market, through internal collaboration with senior corporate leadership, and external coordination with a contract manufacturer.

 

As an Electrical Engineer/Project Manager, you will: 

  • Design and develop a radio frequency (RF) generator for neurosurgery from a mid-development cycle to market, through internal collaboration with senior corporate leadership, and external coordination with a contract manufacturer
  • Provide project leadership to an engineering project, overseeing product development while meeting project deadlines and milestones
  • Work cross-functionally, collaborating internally with engineers, QA/RA specialists, and marketing personnel, and externally with a contract manufacturer, for product generation
  • Ensure the compliance of the design controls procedure, by working closely with regulatory personnel throughout new product development and design changes
  • Streamline engineering tasks using project management tools (such as Gantt charts) to adhere to project schedule
  • Identify potential design concerns throughout the development process, by coordinating with a contract manufacturer for technical reviews of designs and documentation
  • Ensure engineering documentation, including DHFs (design history files) and DMRs (device master records) are updated throughout the R&D process and over the life of the product
  • Provide technical input regarding products within your work cell to marketing and regulatory personnel
  • Provide updates on the progress of projects to appropriate personnel, including the corporate management team
  • Oversee implementation of new products into production during design-transfer stage to ensure a smooth transition from R&D
  • Oversee technical issues with contract manufacturers and component suppliers

 

As an Electrical Engineer/Project Manager, you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in electrical or electronics engineering
  • Professional experience managing projects in the medical device field or another regulated industry
  • Experience with RF or HF circuit design and troubleshooting
  • Experience with FPGAs and microcontrollers, including programming, preferably using Intel Quartus
  • Experience with PCB design and PCB design software, preferably OrCAD or KiCad
  • Experience with troubleshooting electronic systems
  • Experience designing for wireless connectivity and API programming
  • Ability to lead cross-disciplinary technical design reviews

 

Bonus Points for the Following:

  • Monopolar or bipolar electrosurgery device design and troubleshooting experience preferred
  • Experience in the medical device field, or another regulated industry preferred
  • Electro-mechanical design experience preferred
  • Management experience preferred
  • Experience in a hands-on Electrical/Electronics Engineering role preferred
  • Experience with SMD rework preferred
  • Experience with IoT preferred
  • Basic knowledge of radio frequency signal generators, or radio frequency principles
  • Basic knowledge of engineering DHFs (design history files) and DMRs (device master records)
