NEUROTECH OPPORTUNITY for ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS in the UK!!

Calling all Electrical and Mechanical Engineers! Do you want to build the future of neuroscience?

Executive Summary:

What? Work one-on-one with a leading Oxford professor to design and build a headset that enhances cognition in humans.

When? Summer of 2023, starting ideally late May, although dates are flexible depending on availability.

Where? The Imperial College Hackspace at the White City campus in London is ready and waiting for us. However you may possibly do some work at Prof Cleveland’s laboratory in Oxford if mutually convenient.

Why? This is an opportunity to gain unmatched entrepreneurial experience, learn as much as you can from leading engineers and neuroscientists, and potentially join a cutting-edge neurotech startup whose destiny you will have a significant role in shaping.

Who? We are a small team consisting of a neuroscience professor and a computational neuroscience PhD at Imperial, an engineering professor from Oxford, and a private equity lawyer-turned-entrepreneur with a passion for improving how our minds work.

You? You’re an electrical or mechanical engineer at Master’s or PhD level, and you’re looking for a truly ambitious challenge that can be accomplished with your combination of skill, grit and enthusiasm. You’re a natural designer and creator who also believes in the power of neuroscience to make the world a better place. You can’t wait to show us work that you’re proud of, and why you’re right for a startup. Undergrads: to find the special person we’re looking for we will gladly consider exceptional undergraduates. Just show us what makes you exceptional – what have you built that you’re most proud of?

Further details:

We are Mendea Technologies, and we’re working on a non-invasive device that improves cognitive function in humans. We’re looking for someone with hands-on experience building electrical devices to help create our prototype device. It will be a lightweight headset that uses non-invasive stimulation to improve brain function. You’ll be translating cutting-edge neuroscience into real-world designs with immense potential. We estimate the prototype will take 3 months to create, likely starting in May and working over the summer (although the start date can be somewhat flexible). You will be working directly alongside our Engineering Lead: Professor Robin Cleveland of Oxford University. Dr Cleveland is an expert in ultrasonic engineering and neuromodulation, and you will collaborate to design, build and test the world’s first commercially available ultrasound neuromodulation headset. This is an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge field combining neuroscience and electrical engineering. You don’t need a background in ultrasound or neuroscience although experience in either of these would be useful. We’re looking for strong electrical engineering skills that have been proven on the workbench. We’ll add the rest.If the prototype is successful you will have a chance to join the team, take equity in the company, meet VCs and pitch for funding with us. We’ve had strong interest from VCs in our concept – we now need a super keen, hands-on self-starter who can thrive when given the tools to turn their knowledge into something amazing.

To learn more, DM me on Slack or email amonty4@gmail.com for more. Let’s meet for coffee if you’re keen – aspects of the concept can be discussed further upon signing a simple NDA.
