Job Description:
The Director of Development will understand the mission, needs and value of the NeuroTech Institute and is responsible for building relationships with prospective corporate and individual donors to increase philanthropic support. They will work on the identification, engagement, cultivation and solicitation strategies for prospects and gifts.
The aim of the role is to develop a development strategy, build a development team, build a portfolio of prospective donors, create gift propositions and cultivate prospects. Preparation for solicitations will include creative and strategic utilization of resources to determine the prospect gift capacity, build their interest, raise their sights, sustain their engagement and obtain gifts. Success in the position will be guided by annual metrics such as number of monthly meetings, number of gift commitments, and dollars raised.
This leadership role will manage others and provide the direction and oversight for their success.
The Director must demonstrate the ability to handle multiple, complex fundraising activities simultaneously and coordinate solicitation strategies. This role requires the ability to create and implement a fundraising plan and operate with a high level of creativity, initiative, and motivation.
The Director operates with a high degree of independence to make decisions, solve problems, negotiate and adapt to shifting priorities. Expectations include stellar communications, productive interactions with constituents, and team oriented. This role requires occasional travel and evening and weekend work but also offers a flexible schedule including remote work as agreed upon with leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities:
90% – Development
Identifies, qualifies, and cultivates a portfolio of prospective major gift donors. Pursues connections and discovers donor values, capacity, interests and passions. Ensures quality and positive momentum within assigned portfolio to convert prospects to donors. Builds context for gift proposals, develops and implements strategic gift solicitations. Maximizes opportunities to steward donors to further enhance relationships.
Hires, trains and develops, and provides daily management to assigned staff.
10% – Miscellaneous
Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience
- At least five years of professional fundraising experience or professional transferable experience (i.e. managing relationships with required measurable output, making calls, conducting face-to-face appointments, creating and presenting proposals, and other fundamental elements of client relationship or sales-related activities)
- At least two years of management
Desired Qualifications:
- At least five years of professional fundraising experience raising the highest level of philanthropic gifts at an organization (preferably $1M+)
- At least five years of professional fundraising experience in hospital/health care environment
Metrics and Collaboration:
The annual performance will be measured by the number of qualifications, cultivations, solicitations and commitments/dollars raised over each fiscal year. Goal setting is done with the individual’s manager prior to each fiscal year to assure transparency, consistency and alignment.
