Our mission is to make the best mental health tools radically accessible to everyone.
We’re a venture-backed startup building tools to help millions of people monitor, regulate and ultimately improve their moods. Our tools are primarily chat-based. They’re powered by the latest research in NLP and ML, use scientifically proven techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and are based on 10 years of digital mental health research at Stanford University.
We are redefining how people access mental health care and are building the dream team that’s excited about getting us there. Your ability to translate user needs and clinical principles into buildable solutions will be essential to delivering on that promise.
Why You Should Join Our Team:
We’re looking for a stellar visual designer to rethink Woebot’s visual language and develop a design system across our mobile apps and enterprise tools. The visual challenges go beyond palettes, type, and visual hierarchy–we’ve got everything from data visualization and icons to visual explanations within our therapeutic content. In this role you’ll work closely with Woebot founder and president, as well as senior leaders across Woebot to deliver distinctive, therapeutically holistic and deeply crafted visual experiences. If you’re a systematic thinker and a strong innovative collaborator with great visual storytelling skills, this role may be for you.
How You’ll Thrive
Your first month, you’ll:
- Get to know how the Woebot teams and products work.
- Study up on our brand attributes, design principles, and user research.
- Understand the state of our design tools and processes and identify what else you need to be successful.
- Deliver on a small project to get your feet under you.
In your second month, you’ll:
- Explore possible directions for the overall visual language, while managing multiple stakeholders.
- Dig into a focused project to help refine the direction and start having an impact on users.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, PMs, UX & conversational designers, UX researchers, and engineers to agree on the right solutions and the best way to get them into users’ hands.
In your third month and beyond, you’ll:
- Work with a PM to lay out the trajectory for upgrading the visual system.
- Begin developing design system documentation and tools.
- Continue to improve how you work across teams.
- Help improve visual literacy across the product organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
- Excellent graphic design, data visualization, and visual storytelling skills
- Experience designing at least two visual systems for mobile devices, preferably including both iOS and Android.
- Demonstrated ability to generate multiple concepts and take one all the way through implementation.
- A solid grounding in usability and accessibility considerations.
- Ability to engage with other designers, engineers, and PMs about implementation tradeoffs, and to support development with the necessary assets and specs..
- Strong project management, collaboration, and communication skills.
- A commitment to designing based on principles, data, and brand and experience attributes, rather than opinion and aesthetic preferences.
- An understanding of the limitations and biases in both your life experience and your methods, and a commitment to minimizing or mitigating those.
- Solid illustration and/or motion skills are a major plus.
- We don’t expect you to be a unicorn, but we’ll happily make use of any skills you have in UX, IA, or adjacent skills; visual design is the primary focus, but is not a box.
- Portfolio submission is encouraged but not required for initial application; however, we will ask to review 2-3 projects if you’re invited to interview.
