Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist to join our team at the Functional Genomics department. As a postdoc researcher, you supervise and conduct live-cell microscopy experiments using human neurons to evaluate novel treatments for brain disorders.
Our research focuses on understanding the intricacies of neuronal communication, which is critical for proper brain function. This is disrupted in many neurodevelopmental disorders. Using cutting-edge optical tools and advanced live cell microscopy techniques, we investigate disease models in live human neurons to gain insights into the underlying mechanisms of these disorders. Our team works with human IPSC-derived neurons and the latest optical tools and automated analysis routines for drug screening.
As a member of our team, you collaborate with industry partners to explore new treatments for neurodevelopmental disorders. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to ground-breaking research in the field of neuroscience while working alongside a dynamic team of experts.
Requirements
- you have a successful PhD in Biomedical Sciences or Biophysics with a Neuroscience specialization
- you have extensive experience with cell culture and high-end microscopy
- you have programming and data analysis skills (Matlab, Python, R).
- you have strong organisation and management skills.
- you have strong oral and written communication skills in English
What Are We Offering?
A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €2,960 (scale 10)
and a maximum €5,439 (scale 11), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.
The initial employment contract will affect a period of 1 year. After a satisfactory evaluation of the initial appointment, the contract will be extended.

About the Functional Genomics Department
The functional genomics department of the VU (https://fga.cncr.nl/) consists of an enthusiastic, international team, working on a broad range of experimental projects; from molecular genetics to behavior analysis. We want to understand how our brain works and treat brain disorders as epilepsy or neurodevelopmental disorders. Together with the pharmaceutical industry we are testing new treatments, and you would be assisting in these collaborative projects.
