Vivani Medical is an emerging biopharmaceutical company located in Emeryville, CA. We develop very small, sub-dermal drug implants utilizing our proprietary NanoPortal TM technology platform which enables delivery of a broad range of medicines to treat chronic diseases for durations of six months or longer. The Opportunity

This role requires an experienced hands-on analytical chemist who flourishes in a fast-paced start-up environment with shifting priorities and evolving requirements. The AC team provides ongoing analytical services to the R&D and Manufacturing teams, and also develops and transfers new analytical methods and performs one-off special investigations and projects. You’ll be part of a close-knit team of people who are focused, driven, and willing to do whatever it takes to keep the department running. The role requires strong team orientation, flexibility, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and creative problem solving.

  • Conduct analytical chemistry testing, both cGXP and non-cGXP, using well-established methods in support of product and process development including stability testing
  • Perform routine and ad-hoc activities include RP-HPLC and occasional SEC analysis, data processing, and QC review for ongoing product development
  • Perform data analysis, which may include manual peak integration and identification of known degradants and potential novel impurities
  • Assist in the investigation and resolve aberrant or unusual results
  • Write and execute protocols for special investigations and processes of intermediate complexity and evaluate their data
  • Independently plan, design and execute experiments of intermediate complexity and interpret the results
  • Work largely independently on projects and assignments that may require significant protocol development
  • Ensure compliance with government rules and regulations (FDA, cGLP, OSHA, etc.)

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry or equivalent discipline
  • Industry experience either in pharmaceuticals or combination drug and device products
  • Thrive in a team environment

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with reverse phase HPLC (RP-HPLC) including significant method development experience
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with RP-HPLC analysis of peptides and proteins and perform this type of analysis with minimal oversight
  • Legally authorized to work in the US

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or equivalent discipline.
  • Proficiency with Chromeleon software
  • Mass spectrometry experience, especially working knowledge of the Thermo Fisher OrbiTrap LTQ MS
  • Experience with bioanalytical techniques, ligand-based (ECL, ELISA), cell culture assays, and solid phase extraction
