Who is BlueRock?

BlueRock Therapeutics, a wholly-owned and independently operated subsidiary of Bayer AG, is a leading engineered cell therapy company using its unique cell+gene platform to direct cellular differentiation and genetically engineer cells to create a new generation of cellular medicines that address large patient populations suffering from neurological, cardiovascular, and immunology diseases.

The convergence of cell biology and genetic engineering is creating fundamental new ways to impact disease. Founded in 2016 to capitalize on these technological breakthroughs, we are advancing our novel cell+gene platform to develop, manufacture, and deliver an entirely new generation of authentic and engineered cell therapies across three therapeutic areas: neurology, cardiology, and immunology.

What Are We Doing?

Our foundational science harnesses the ability to create and then direct the differentiation of universal pluripotent stem cells into authentic, functional cells that can be used as allogeneic cellular therapies to treat a broad array of diseases. We can also further engineer these cells, enabling them to produce enzymes, antibodies, and other proteins for additional therapeutic benefit.

We are passionate about delivering on the promise of cellular and gene therapy, shaping the future of cellular medicine, and delivering new therapies to millions of patients with treatment options.

We are seeking individuals who are collaborative, thrive in a fun and dynamic culture, and are steadfast in the commitment to advance cutting-edge cellular therapies to impact patients’ lives.

The BlueRock (Co-op) 6-months program will include one or more projects in the in vivo/Immunology team in Bluerock Therapeutics, Cambridge, MA. This is a great opportunity for a talented and self-motivated undergraduate or graduate student to learn and contribute to cutting-edge cellular therapies while gaining valuable career experience in translational Immunology.

The candidate will work with a scientific mentor to gain direct, hands-on experience in developing omics-based data analysis and/or molecular and cellular-based assays to characterize potential therapeutic targets. Lab-based techniques learned can include primary and cell line culture, isolation of immune cell subsets, flow cytometry, Luminex, GeoMx-DSP.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the execution of cell phenotyping and immunological assays (Flow Cytometry, Luminex) to assess cells from multiple animal models across diverse therapeutic areas including autoimmunity, transplantation, and oncology.
  • Conduct staining and analyze spatial genomics (GeoMx-Nanostring) assays under supervision.
  • Participate in the development of IHC/IF staining, imaging collection and image analysis
  • Culture, maintain and characterize mammalian cell lines.
  • Analyze, review, and present data within in vivo and immunology group meetings
  • Comply with standard laboratory practices and company policies, including notebook document and biosafety policies.
  • Maintain scientific curiosity and familiarity with relevant literature and cutting-edge technologies to advance research direction

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree program in Immunology or a cell or molecular biology program. Students enrolled in graduate programs (MS or PhD) are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and flow cytometry
  • Documented strong analytical, communication, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to 6 consecutive months beginning (June/July)

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Experience in RNA-seq library preparation and analysis or related genomics skills
