At Cognixion, we’re building the future of human computer interaction as a regulated medical device called the Cognixion ONE. This integrated wearable system reads and processes biometric data to enable novel control of augmented reality applications using a combination of brain, eye and body movements. Cognixion’s mission is to realize the concept of assisted reality by innovating and deploying technologies to those most in need.

Reporting to the CTO, the Sr. Staff Neuroscientist is responsible for articulating and executing an aggressive research agenda in the domain of BCI mediated assistive reality. The Staff scientist will also need to pursue external grant opportunities and collaborate with researchers at academic partner institutions.

The research team at Cognixion is mandated with innovating at the edge of what’s known and about human brain sensing, human machine interfaces and natural language processing. This team must both deliver actionable research work product that can feed competitive differentiation on in product development and build a pipeline of groundbreaking research that will fill out Cognxion’s IP portfolio.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable in the lab, conducting biosensing experiments, writing algorithms, strategizing, and planning research activities and communicating research both internally and to the wider world.

 

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the research roadmap for biosignals research activities.
  • Keep current on latest biosignal processing technologies and techniques, and wearable physiological monitoring systems.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers conducting critical path technology research as well as groundbreaking, long horizon, research.
  • Collaborate with leaders in engineering, UX and product to identify key technology risk areas and areas for whitespace innovation.
  • Support internal IP creation process, handoff and prosecution.

 

Skills & Experience

  • PhD or equivalent experience in BioEngineering, Systems Engineering, Machine Learning, Algorithms or other relevant technical discipline
  • 3-5 years of industrial research experience ideally in neurotech
  • Experience with industrial and collaborative research funding – grants, academic collaboration, etc.
  • Publication and/or patent record demonstrating a high level of impactful innovation.
  • Direct experience in technology transfer from early stage, speculative research into product development and commercialization.
  • Direct experience with BioSignals including EEG, EMG, EOG and other non-invasive sensing means.
  • Comfortable with algorithm development.
  • Expert at deploying experimentation as a method of knowledge discovery, including with human subjects and in an industrial research setting.

 

Important Details

  • Frequent travel to Toronto, Ontario will be required.
  • Periodic travel to Santa Barbara California will be required.
  • Position can be partly remote.
  • Remote applicants MUST be eligible to work in Canada and USA for several weeks at a time.
