Job Description Summary

The Undergraduate Neuroscience Program in Penn Arts and Sciences is seeking an Associate Director, with a start date of mid-July or Aug 1, 2023. The Associate Director supports the Undergraduate Neuroscience Program through teaching and administrative work. The Associate Director is responsible for teaching two (2) undergraduate neuroscience courses each year, as well as advising students on the major requirements, research opportunities, study abroad, career options, and other issues as they arise. The Associate Director provides oversight for course rostering and enrollment management, as well as Program teaching needs and teaching performance. They act as the liaison to other university offices, participate in program meetings, help plan and implement solutions to problems that impact the program, and perform other duties as necessary.

Job Description

The Neuroscience Program is home to an interdisciplinary major and several minors, in which students explore biological, psychological, computational and clinical approaches to understand the nervous system as the basis of behavior, perception, memory, motivation, and emotion.  Faculty from a variety of departments contribute to the teaching of course in this major, as well as several full-time lecturers.  In addition to teaching, the program supports outreach activities, the undergraduate Penn Neuroscience Society, and an annual research symposium for majors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide support for the major, including advising of majors, updating of student worksheets, oversight of course rostering and management of enrollment, as well as other pertinent details that allow the Program to function smoothly.  Work with students who have issues that go beyond normal advising discussions, including those with academic difficulty, prospective students and international students. 
• Teach two (2) neuroscience courses that support the Program curriculum each academic year. 
• Manage curriculum planning and identify and engage instructors and teaching assistants for NRSC courses as necessary. 
• Identify any problems with major-related courses and implement solutions, including managing enrollments. 
• Act as a liaison between the Program and NRSC course instructors, the SAS College Office, the College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS), Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CURF). 
• Participate in Program meetings, coordinating responses to any issues that arise. 
• Perform other duties as necessary as requested by the Program Director. 

Qualifications:

• PhD in neuroscience or similar field and one year of experience is required;
• Teaching experience at the college level;
• Administrative experience.

$61,046.00 – $95,972.00
