Job Description

Applications are invited for a full-time Neuroscience Research Computational Programmer in Dr. Read Montague’s lab, within the Center for Human Neuroscience Research at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. Projects in the lab are highly interdisciplinary, investigating decision-making and social interaction in both clinical and non-clinical participant populations using MRI, MEG, pupilometry, and electrochemical recordings. This position provides an excellent opportunity to apply and gain skills in processing, parsing, and organizing experimental data outputs, signal processing and analysis, high-performance computing, writing user documentation, and/or computational neuroscience as either a long-term position or in preparation for graduate school. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented person who enjoys interacting with others and being a key part of a diverse and active scientific environment.

The Neuroscience Research Computational Programmer will play a critical role in ground-breaking research including: preparation of in-vivo datasets for analysis, investigation and validation of new data acquisition and analysis methods, data quality assurance, and process automation. We invite applications from individuals with field experience and from highly self-directed, conscientious, and talented early career developers with little to no field experience.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics) .
  • Demonstrated software development experience and familiarity with back-end programming languages and technologies such as UNIX, Bash/ZSH, JVM, Python, and SQL.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task effectively and attention to detail.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiencies with data science platforms such as Matlab, R, and NumPy/Pandas/Jupyter.
  • Detail oriented, ability both to work independently and part of an interdisciplinary team.
