The Carver College of Medicine Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology is seeking a Research Associate to work closely with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, engineers and scientists to uncover novel therapeutics for cancer that leverages the immune system. This is a unique position that offers the opportunity to serve at the forefront of an exciting and new field and they will have the opportunity to work on translational science using animal models which will be tested in clinical trials. This position will also have the opportunity to publish in high impact journals.
Duties to Include:
- Design and carry out experiments to test laboratory hypotheses and advance the laboratory’s research goals
- Perform statistical analysis and interpretation of data and qualitative analysis
- Maintain detailed and accurate notes of experimental results
- As skills develop, may contribute to writing of grants and published materials
- Develop protocols of experimental approaches
- Adhere to safety and compliance guidelines
- Provide ongoing training on basic and new lab techniques and protocols for employees.

Two faculty members are Howard Hughes Institute Investigators, 12 are members of the Institute of Medicine and two are members of the National Academy of Sciences.

Required Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, bioengineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, neuroscience or a related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum 1 year of research-related experience
- Ability to execute and follow-through to completion and documentation
- Experience running and analyzing flow cytometry
- Demonstrated ability to formulate hypotheses
- Ability to multitask effectively, prioritize multiple projects
- Excellent organizational skills
- Proficiency with Office software (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)
Desirable Qualifications:
- Expertise in designing custom flow cytometry panels
- Experience in in vivo immunooncology, xenograft, orthotopic or syngeneic studies
- Basic proficiency with GraphPad, ImageJ, SPSS, Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent
- Working knowledge with cell culture methods, mouse models, biochemical assays, colorimetric assays, ELISAs, Western blotting, PCR and qPCR
