Position Summary
The Huang lab is currently searching for a dedicated research assistant to join our team, focusing on the investigation of memory mechanisms. Our interdisciplinary approach encompasses a broad array of techniques, including behavioral, imaging, molecular, genetic and biochemical methodologies, in the study of the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster.
As a vital member of our team, the research assistant assists with research studies, experiments, preparation of material, and documents experimental procedures. Additionally, they will actively contribute to research discussions and collaborate with colleagues to analyze and interpret results, fostering a dynamic and productive scientific environment.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts research experiments and assays.
- Evaluates research results, reporting findings and discussing project outcomes with staff involved.
- Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
- Coordinates tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
- Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Coordinates research project with other institutions and investigators.
- Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
- Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning.
- Performs literature searches on specified topics.
Working Conditions
Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to implement general laboratory procedures, conduct research and record findings, with focus on pursuit of advanced education in field.
- Prior educational background or research experience in fields such as biology, neuroscience, or chemistry is highly desirable, although not mandatory for this position.

Required Qualifications
Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with two years of experience in laboratory operations.
Grade: R07-H
Salary Range: $16.24 – $27.63 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
