Position Description

The Institute of Engineering in Medicine (https://IEM.ucsd.edu) at the University of California, San Diego, https://ucsd.edu/ is conducting and open search for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Specialist knowledgeable in the areas of Basic Science, Molecular Biology or related and/or Neurosciences.

Dr. Michael G. Rosenfeld at IEM is seeking a Specialist researcher to perform molecular biology research related to Alzheimer’s Disease pathogenesis and therapy. Emphasis will be on cell type- specific effects of HSV1 RNAs in human AD brains and AD model systems.

Job duties may include but will not be limited to:

• Cloning, PCR, and mutagenesis, using standard molecular cell biology techniques including transfections and/or viral transductions, protein purification, gel electrophoresis, Western blot, snRNA-seq and sn ATACseq, GRO-seq, CRISPRi, etc.
• Optimizing biochemical assays and/or cell-based assays
• Planning and/or performing complex experiments
• Performing injections and primary cell isolations in animal procedures
• Interpreting, documenting, summarizing and presenting experimental results in individual and/or group meetings
• Evaluating and recommending new emerging technologies, approaches, and problems
• Analyzing and/or interpreting large data sets using Machine Learning, Next Generation Sequencing, etc.
• Preparing and/or writing manuscripts and grant applications under supervision

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (Required at Time of Application)

• Master’s degree in Basic Science, Molecular Biology or related and/or Neurosciences, or possession of a baccalaureate degree plus three or more years of research experience.
• The incumbent must have experience with standard molecular biology techniques and mammalian cell culture and biochemistry.

Preferred qualifications

• PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Basic Science, Molecular Biology or related and/or Neurosciences as well as substantial hands-on research experience in biomedical sciences.
