Medtronic Diabetes Group Research and Development department is looking for a Senior Manufacturing Electrical Engineer.  In this exciting role you will be the primary interface to our PCBA contract manufacturers for pre-production and NPI development. You will be responsible for coordinating all activity between the electrical engineering design group and offshore contract manufacturers including delivering design documents, creating build schedules and monitoring progress. To be successful in this role you must have a good working knowledge of PCB design, layout and manufacturing processes as well as understand PCB assembly line operation, optimization and troubleshooting. You will collaborate with Medtronic Engineering, Quality Assurance and CMs to optimize high volume designs for exceptional quality, low cost and efficient production.  You will participate in DFM/DFA reviews to ensure that designs are implemented in a way that is consistent with CM capabilities and are producible with high yields.

 A Day in the Life 

Responsibilities may include the following other duties as needed: 

  • Act as an interface between PCBA Contract Manufacturers and Medtronic functional groups to schedule, coordinate and meet design objectives and required project timelines 
  • Work directly with CMs and their suppliers to resolve project related issues 
  • Coordinate with cross-functional organizations (Program Office, Quality, Regulatory, etc) to prioritize, plan and execute key CM initiatives 
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, operations and engineering functions to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues, ensure successful product launch and facilitate transition of manufacturing activities to the operations group.  
  • Provide guidance to engineering on design concepts and specifications that best utilize CM equipment and manufacturing techniques. 
  • Assist suppliers with manufacturing process and tooling development and validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) 
  • Assist engineering with design releases and help process various Engineering Changes (ECR/ECO) as needed. 
  • Ensure that assigned projects are run in compliance with the Design Control SOP or their subordinate DOP’s and Change Control procedures 
  • Drive product development/quality improvement activities to ensure that products meet cost, yield, and quality targets 
  • Comply with all standards and exercise regulatory compliance requirements such as FDA QSR and ISO 13485 
  • Review manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling. 
  • Review arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout. 
  • Assist the Quality Assurance team with CM inquiries, audits, FAs and corrective/preventive action activities. 
  • Ensure CM processes and procedures comply with applicable regulations. 

 

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering discipline with 4+ years of related experience.

OR

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering discipline with 2+ years of related experience.  

 

Nice to Have 

  • 8+ years of related experience 
  • 5+ years experience in project management of PCBA Contract Manufacturing 
  • Working knowledge of IPC Standards: IPC-6012, IPC-A-600, J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610
  • Solid understanding of PCB schematic capture, layout, materials and board stackups. 
  • Strong background in high volume PCB assembly line processes and operations.  
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office tools including Project. 
  • Experience using document control software such as Agile. 
  • Background in medical device/pharmaceutical/aerospace industry. 
  • Experience with regulated manufacturing industries.  
  • Working knowledge of Altium CAD design suite 
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.  
  • Bi-lingual- Spanish

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
