Job Summary and Primary Responsibilities
As a Systems Engineer at Nuvasive, you will:
- Serve as the Technical liaison between clinical/marketing, project management, Hardware and Software engineering design teams
- Translate clinical and business needs to system and subsystem requirements for engineering definition of the system
- Generate use cases, trade studies, draft design documentation, and risk assessments to facilitate systematic trade-off decisions and robust engineering solutions
- Consult on adequacy of test method for device requirements
- Build prototypes, fixtures, and SW tools for data acquisition and analysis
- Work cross-disciplinarily to provide hands-on system troubleshooting and debugging
- Utilize sound engineering methods and documentation processes to perform design reviews and failure mode analyses
- Lead the design, implementation, and integration of system features (software, robotic arm, implants, and surgical instruments) to deliver best-in-class surgical technology
- Work with minimum supervision on highly complex projects.
- Ownership of a particular feature or component from hazard/risk analysis, requirements, directing development & design, addressing residual risk mitigations, through feature verification and validation
- System integration of all subsystem that make up the feature/functionality
- Participate and support Key Opinion Leader cadaveric labs
Required Skills / Capabilities

Requirements Management Experience
- Develop user needs, system requirements, subsystem requirements for HW and SW and define acceptance criteria
- Decompose and allocate requirements to cross functional disciplines
- Identify and understand dependencies across subsystem requirements
Product Development/System Design Experience
- Experience designing system behavior (i.e. user interaction with system, system interaction with anatomy)
- Good understanding and experience of system lifecycle phases and design control processes
- Experience designing subsystem interactions (i.e. ability to create a functional system interconnect diagrams)
- Experience with HW and SW development as part of complex system development
- Ability to identify and manage technical Dependencies across HW and SW subsystems
- Strong understanding of risk analysis for complex systems, experience managing risk registries for large projects (i.e. aFMEA, hazard analysis, etc.)
- Strong analytical, problem solving skills, partitioning/decomposing complex engineering problems into solvable problems
- Basic experience with CAD (i.e. Test Fixture design, simple prototypes, transformation math, etc.)
- Basic programming skills (i.e. MATLAB, python, C#, C++, or similar) prototyping, data acquisition, data analysis, parsing large quantities of files/data
- Good understanding of Statistics (DOE, t-test, ANOVA, etc.) and use of tools (R, Minitab, etc.)
Project Management Experience
- Experience with Agile methodology
- Managing deliverables and effectively communicating to program lead risks and dependencies
Emotional Intelligence
- Experience working in cross-functional environment with strong influence and ability to effectively work with various groups within the organization
- Strong communication skills, ability to influence team members, excellent negotiating skills
- Experience interacting with Health Care Professionals

Education and Experience
- Bachelor of science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical, biomedical, or equivalent engineering discipline. Master’s is a plus.
- 5+ Years’ experience in complex system product development
- Experience working in a regulated environment (FDA, Automotive, Aerospace)
- Preferred INCOSE certification (ASEP, CSEP, ESEP)
- Preferred Surgical Robotics experience
- Preferred Spine Anatomy and Procedures knowledge
Salary Range: $96,000 – $160,000
