About the Opportunity

Aaron Seitz and Susanne Jaeggi in the Center for Cognitive and Brain Health seek a Research Technician to assist in studies focused on measuring and training cognitive processes. Primary responsibilities will include leading and managing studies focused on digital cognitive assessments (e.g., vision, hearing, attention, memory, etc) and digital cognitive training programs. We work with diverse populations, including ages (ranging from children to older adults), neurodiverse individuals and those with perceptual and cognitive needs, thus, candidates should be sensitive to the needs of different people, also including people of different backgrounds (i.e., race, culture, gender, socioeconomic status, etc). Additionally, an ideal candidate should have strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills, who can work well in both remote and in-person settings with PIs, graduate students, undergraduate students, programmers, designers, community partners, and national/international collaborators.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Engage with potential participants through various recruitment methods (e.g., flyers, ads, events, etc) and train, support, and supervise research assistants and staff to help with participant recruitment
  • Develop study tools (e.g., tracking forms, questionnaires, administration protocols), train research assistants on study procedures, and run participants through study procedures. 
  • Verify participant data daily to ensure collection is accurate and process data with MATLAB, Python, and R scripts as needed
  • Prepare and maintain IRB materials
  • Order, inventorize, and manage lab equipment and office supplies; coordinate with financial department and IT on equipment orders and updates as needed
  • Supervise day-to-day lab operations and issues that arise and report them to supervisors

 

Minimum Qualifications

Provide the minimum knowledge and skills required to competently perform the job as well as how they are normally acquired through education, training and/or experience (i.e., Knowledge of…..; ability to…..; as normally acquired through a…. degree and ___ years of experience.):

  • BA/BS degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Education, or related technical field.
  • Experiences with IRB and Clinical Trial procedures.
  • One to three years of academic or professional experience in a research lab.
  • Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, and R.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and solution-focused problem solving skills.
  • Ability to keep accurate and detailed records of research data. 
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed, including occasional weekend hours, as needed for particular research activities, and to travel off-site for recruitment events.

 

Preferred

  • Experience working with older adults, children, and managing staff.
  • Experience managing different large-scale projects.
