The Sr. Principal R&D Engineer will report into the Wound Management R&D Team and will focus on technology development to meet customer needs and expand our wound closure product line. The Principal R&D Engineer will support R&D activities related to polymerization, fiber extrusion and development of next generation sutures, including combination products.  This position will serve as core team member of a new product development team.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs, develops, analyzes, troubleshoots, and provides technical skills during research and/or product development.
  • Designs studies to investigate root cause or identify process parameters.
  • Involved in activities to support product development and pre-clinical studies.
  • Translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products.
  • Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
  • Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
  • Work will be performed in R&D laboratories and in manufacturing facilities

 

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience
  • Requires a University Degree and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience

 

Nice to Have

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Specialization in polymer chemistry & extrusion highly preferred
  • Experience in the medical device industry
  • Practical experience and theoretical knowledge in the following areas:
  • Development and manufacturing of combination products
    • Polymer development and manufacturing
    • Fiber extrusion
    • Textile manufacturing
    • Material characterization
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality technical work within project schedules and timelines.
  • Must be team oriented, with the ability to work well on common deliverables with diverse cross-functional teams and to interact at the highest professional manner with all organizational levels

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills to successfully partner on varying levels ranging from cross functional to global multi-site and multi-business unit

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.  

 

Min Salary: 145,600
Max Salary: 218,400
Travel: Yes, < 25 % of the Time
