Department Description:

The Department of Psychological Sciences at USD offers two undergraduate majors: one in Psychology and an interdisciplinary major in Behavioral Neuroscience. Detailed Description: 

The Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of San Diego invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Neuroscience starting in Fall 2024.

The teaching load is three courses per semester, and faculty will serve as an academic advisor for undergraduate students and participate in department and University service. Candidates who have postdoctoral experience with independent research and university-level teaching are preferred, and candidates with experience working with and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds are especially welcome to apply.

A successful applicant will teach a lower-level introductory neuroscience course, upper-division courses in neurobiology and/or systems neuroscience, and an advanced capstone in neuroscience. Candidates will be expected to teach and contribute to the development of laboratory classes for the neuroscience major. There is also the opportunity to teach upper-division specialty courses in their area of expertise (e.g., psychopharmacology, cellular physiology, hormones and behavior, etc.). The successful candidate will have demonstrated the potential for an independent research program involving undergraduate students. Research using invertebrate, rat, fish, or cellular models is preferred. Successful candidates should demonstrate a clear commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including advocating for the advancement of the perspectives of minoritized or marginalized students.

In their letter of application, candidates are asked to describe their interests in one or more of the following three cluster themes in the College of Arts and Sciences. These clusters will include new faculty from multiple academic disciplines who have research or teaching interests in one of the following substantive themes: Borders and Social Justice, Technology and the Human Experience, and Climate Change and Environmental Justice. The goal of these themed clusters is to facilitate collaborative research, provide opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching, and build community among faculty and students throughout the University. Candidates are encouraged to interpret these themes broadly and creatively to indicate how their teaching and research in the department may be understood to intersect with one or more of the three themes. There will be opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and a college-wide mentoring program to support new faculty throughout the tenure process.

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
