Summary

The Sisley lab is in the Children’s Nutrition Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine. The research focuses on the brain control of energy and glucose homeostasis.  Specifically interested in 1) the role of the vitamin D receptor in the brain on glucose control and 2) the effect of genetic variations on weight regulation. The ultimate goals is to understand the biology of obesity and diabetes, and to use this knowledge to improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with obesity and/or diabetes. Technician for this position will be excited to advance the biology of obesity and diabetes as well as to develop a knowledge of brain pathways impacting these diseases.

A laboratory technician position in neuroscience/metabolism is available at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. The technician will have some experience in molecular biology and mouse handling. The technician will help advance the lab forward by performing routine laboratory techniques, contributing ideas, and aiding in experiments.

 

Job Duties

  • Assists with the preparation of mouse experiments.
  • Assists in collecting data, including molecular and animal related data.
  • Performs simple research experiments using established protocols.
  • Assists in the maintenance of laboratory equipment.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One year of relevant experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience working in the laboratory setting. 
  • Prior animal handling experience is a plus.
