Role Description:

Solely responsible for the design of analog circuits and power systems for medical imaging devices while working closely with a team of hardware and software engineers

 

Essential Duties And Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Design and maintain analog circuits, digital circuits and power systems for CT and other medical device systems
  • Power circuit design using power modules or discrete components to support high voltage/high load systems. Expertise in high power design including creepage/clearance, isolation and thermal management
  • Design AC and DC power conversion, distribution, and protection circuits for mobile medical imaging systems. Voltage(s) range to 600VDC and power to 10kW
  • Implement microcontroller based battery management systems for high power Li-ion based battery systems. Ability to program in C in an embedded environment is a plus
  • PCB layout support including constraints for high power designs
  • System testing and mitigation for regulatory approval including EMC/EMI
  • Write detailed specifications, verification procedures, and test procedures
  • Conduct design reviews and critique other engineers designs
  • Develop reliability test protocols to environmentally stress designs
  • Analyze systematic fault modes and implement corrective action plans
  • ECO changes per PLM process
  • Work in a team environment that encourages respectfully receiving and giving constructive criticism
  • Work individually with minimal supervision and as part of team of engineers
  • Board and system level debugging
  • Required to wear dosimeter when in direct contact with radiation emitting devices

 

Education & Experience

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required and 10 years minimum of direct analog and digital related design experience
  • Experience with battery powered systems and high power Li-ion battery arrays. Relevant experience could include battery powered vehicles
  • Experience with battery management systems for Li-ion based battery chemistries
  • Knowledge of battery performance based on chemistry, battery load profiles and battery management including charging and monitoring
  • Experience with AC and DC power conversion, distribution, and protection
  • Experience with motion/motor controls
  • Experience with ground-up circuit design of all types including discrete power components
  • Experience with medical device development and associated standards (IEC60601)
  • Experience with design for EMC compliance
  • Experience with designing microcontroller circuits and programming microcontrollers in C
  • Experience with design verification and manufacturing test for PCB assemblies including writing test procedures and designing test fixtures
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write design documents and test plans
  • ISO, FDA and CMDR Awareness training
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision, take charge of projects, and work effectively in a demanding, fast paced environment
  • Must be able to assemble facts from various areas, analyze data, and provide informed recommendations to management

 

Computer & Analytical Skills

  • Schematic capture using OrCAD
  • Knowledge of PCB circuit design
  • Arena PLM system
  • Experience in analog and digital circuits, power; developing test software; and motor control

 

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally lift and /or move up to 40 pounds
  • Frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands; and talk or hear
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually mild
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
  • Interaction with x-ray devices; for this reason strict safety and tracking programs are in place, requiring the utilization of dose monitoring equipment either full time or as necessitated by situation
