Hardware Engineering           ·         Toronto (Hybrid)         ·        Full time

Interaxon (Muse) is a consumer and B2B neurotechnology company specializing in brain computer interfaces (BCIs) through the production of its research-grade EEG headbands, Muse. The Muse headband uses EEG sensors to monitor brain activity and provide real-time feedback to users about their mental state, including their level of focus, relaxation, and stress. It has been used by researchers, mental health & rehabilitation clinics, universities and sport teams to improve mindfulness, mental health practices, sleep and support neuroscience research and innovation.Interaxon is known to be the largest EEG datasets in the world, with +1 billion minutes of brain data. Muse has been used in over 200 published clinical research studies, including Mayo Clinic, NASA, Harvard and MIT. Interaxon is headquartered in Toronto, Canada

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to the design, development, prototyping and test activities for the mechanical systems that go into Interaxon’s wearable systems that meet or exceed reliability targets.
  • Drive the development activities from concept to high volume manufacturing
  • Develop criteria to evaluate and qualify components and technologies for inclusion in product development.
  • Coordinate with a diverse set of cross-site technical contributors, including internal teams, the factory, sub-contractors and vendors to successfully solve engineering challenges and transition the system into high volume manufacturing.
  • Set up equipment, processes and methodologies as necessary.
  • Understand the broad engineering constraints (inc electrical, mechanical, firmware, sensor) and rapidly iterate through mechanical designs.
  • Physically prototype and test ideas rapidly.

Requirements:

  • Experience with mechanical designs for wearable, flexible products (industrial design experience is ideal)
  • Must be an expert at design for manufacturing techniques for high volume consumer electronics products
  • Experience working with EEG and ideally fNIRS
  • A strong systems background – understands impact of one design areas on other parts of the system (i.e., mechanical, electrical performance, testability, etc.)
  • Experience designing products for automated assembly and test
  • Experience with ME design, simulation and analysis software. Extensive experience with 3D CAD modeling: Autocad, Inventor, SolidWorks, Pro-Engineer, Alibre, etc.
  • A creative thinker, with fast problem solving skills and ability to bring innovative and leading technology to market
  • Candidate with a strong background in materials and reliability analysis preferred
  • Prior experience building cost optimized, flexible, miniature systems preferred
  • Extensive experience with prototyping plastic and mechanical parts
  • Experience with material selection for devices making contact with human skin
  • Experience in bringing new materials and/or finishes from concept to production, including process definition and validation, e.g. with flexible materials, and/or fabrics
