The Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience (P&N) is internationally recognized for its commitment to impactful biomedical research, robust education of future health care providers, outstanding graduate training, and selfless community outreach. The P&N Department is the faculty home to several research institutes that organize and support focused, basic and translational multidisciplinary research efforts in, including the North Texas Eye Research Institute (NTERI).
Position Summary
The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC), located in the charming Cultural District of Fort Worth, Texas, is nationally recognized for its medical school, graduate student education, and health professions, pharmacy, and public health programs. The Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience (P&N) is internationally recognized for its commitment to impactful biomedical research, robust education of future healthcare providers, outstanding graduate training, and selfless community outreach. The P&N Department is the faculty home to several research institutes that organize and support focused, basic and translational multidisciplinary research efforts, including the North Texas Eye Research Institute (NTERI).
The P&N Department and NTERI of the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) at Fort Worth are jointly seeking to hire a dynamic Assistant/Associate Professor of Pharmacology & Neuroscience with an established research program in eye research to join our team. Preference will be given to candidates with active research programs in ocular microbiology/immunology and/or retinal pathobiology and disease(s).
Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, or an allied life sciences discipline, and a minimum of 4 years of postdoctoral experience.
The successful candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
- Extensive research experience as evidenced by multiple publications in vision, microbiology/immunology and/or retinal fields.
- Experience with graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows, mentoring.
- Experience with teaching microbiology/immunology and vision-related topics at the graduate level.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to the candidates with following additional qualifications:
- A track record of scholarly excellence as evidenced by current extramural funding.
- Teaching experience in a graduate program.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Teaching and mentoring of graduate students.
- Advancing an already established, high-quality record of peer-reviewed publications in vision-focused research.
- Participating in the activities of departmental committees.
- Maintaining a safe work environment, including ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal legislation, and the undertaking of risk assessments.
- Collaborating within and outside the School of Biomedical Sciences.
- Seeking extramural support in both individual and collaborative manners to support high quality research.
- Supervising students, postdoctoral trainees, and technical staff undertaking research projects.
- Participating in UNTHSC-wide, as well as local, national, and international, service activities.
- Upholding high professional standards and leading by example.
- Pursuing additional professional and service activities as assigned by the P&N Department Chair and the NTERI Executive Director.
- Promoting the mission, vision, and values of UNTHSC.
