23 Oct Department of Bioengineering – Postdoctoral Research Associate in NeuroRehabilitation Engineering
Postdoctoral Research Associate in NeuroRehabilitation Engineering
Department of Bioengineering
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Qualified candidates are sought for two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions in the laboratory of Professor Yuan Yang in the Department of Bioengineering within The Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign. The Yang laboratory is focused on investigating neural mechanisms underlying movement impairments post-stroke and developing targeted therapeutical interventions to facilitate motor recovery. This interdisciplinary research integrates computational neuroscience approaches and human subject experiments, based on multi-modal brain imaging, non-invasive brain stimulation, electrophysiology signals, robotic devices, and data sciences. There are two positions open in the laboratory: one will focus on neuroimaging and neuromodulation, and the other one on biomechanics and human movements.
Eligible candidates must have obtained a Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering or Biomedical Engineering, Rehabilitation Sciences, or a related discipline within 10 years of the start date of the position. The ideal candidate in neuroimaging and neuromodulation should have experience in human subject experiments with at least one of the following skills: EEG, fMRI, DTI, TMS, tDCS, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or research projects. Experience in designing and performing studies involving clinical populations or NIH-defined clinical trials is preferred. The ideal candidate in biomechanics and human movements should have experience in human-machine interactions, robot-assist rehabilitation, functional electrical stimulation, EMG, and/or mathematical modeling of the musculoskeletal system, with excellent skills in Simulink or Python for user interface design.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate is a full-time, benefits-eligible position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding. The anticipated start date is as soon as possible but negotiable. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
To apply for this position, submit a cover letter including a description of research expertise, a complete C.V., and names and contact information for three references to Professor Yang (yuany@illinois.edu). Please include ‘Postdoctoral Research Associate’ in the subject line of the email. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
