THE OPPORTUNITY Harvard Bioscience is currently seeking an experienced In Vivo Behavioral Neuroscience Application Scientist/Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will work with; and support the North American Account Executives by injecting science into pre-sales conversations and converting demand generating opportunities into revenue. You will be responsible for providing scientific expertise and promoting the capabilities of our behavioral neuroscience instruments and software platforms. The qualified candidate should have expertise with common behavior paradigms and will master solutions and approaches coming from Harvard Bioscience’s premium brands including Panlab and Data Sciences International (DSI) including:
- Applications supporting the study of brain function (cognition, memory, emotion, etc.)
- Instrumentation used to study related pathologies (Alzheimer, Parkinson, depression, addiction, etc.)
- Acute physiologic monitoring solutions supporting phenotyping, chronobiology/circadian rhythm, drug screening, and in vivo metabolism
- Solutions supporting a variety of behavioral experiments utilizing techniques such as video tracking, operant conditioning, locomotor activity and exploration, sensory motor and coordination, pain and analgesia, social interaction, respiratory metabolism (indirect calorimetry), etc.
Essential Job Functions
- Contributor to a team that drives HBIO awareness and scientific value – resulting in qualified leads and revenue
- ‘Value add’ to the pre-sales process – providing scientific input and assisting with complex demonstrations/applications – helping solidify the relationship/experience
- Form relationships with key scientific leaders within target markets and feed information gathered to relevant stakeholders within the company. Also work with said leaders to help identify, create, and deliver presentations based upon the use of HBIO products that can be presented at scientific meetings, user community meetings, webinars, or through other forms of media
- Assist in gathering customer and market input
- Engage with internal teams (technical support, engineering, sales, etc.) to provide application knowledge and confidence in HBIO solutions
- Provide scientific application training requirements as needed for technical support, world-wide distributors, and remote based colleagues
- Aid technical support and scientific services for more complex scenarios
- Collaborate with upstream marketing (Product Managers) to provide scientific value for product marketing plans and product launches
- Collaborate with downstream marketing (MARCOM) to promote scientific relevance in outbound communications and collateral
skills and abilities required
- Strong scientific and/or product application knowledge as well as an understanding of basic technical and troubleshooting skills
- Hands on experience with behavioral neuroscience techniques
- Strong communication, customer relations, and customer service skills are essential
- Ability to address, interpret, and communicate scientific value and findings to internal and external audiences
- Willingness to travel internationally and engage key stakeholders as needed
Bonus skills and experience
- Hands on experience with in vivo electrophysiology
- Knowledge of stereotaxic surgery techniques and rodent behavioral equipment is strongly preferred
- Understanding of academic and industrial research approaches, competitive solutions, and drug discovery markets
- 2nd language (beyond English)
Education and Experience and/or equivalent
- Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience, Neuroscience or related discipline with post-doctoral research experience using rodent models.
- M.S. or B.S. degree in similar fields with significant behavioral neuroscience work experience taken into consideration.
Travel
Up to 40% travel. Travel percentages are estimate, vary based on demand, and typically include prospect and client sites, corporate facilities, and scientific trade shows. Willingness to travel internationally. COVID-19 vaccination may be a requirement
