Company Description:

We are a Canadian medical device company specializing in movement recovery following spinal cord injuries.

Through preclinical experiments, we have demonstrated that our neurostimulation protocol can alleviate spinal cord injury deficits by training a user to regain voluntary control of leg movement even after the stimulation has been turned off.

More specifically, the neural interface we are developing would leverage a neurostimulation optimization module enabling the delivery of personalized cortical stimulation during motor training.

 

Position Description:

We are seeking a full-time CEO which will be responsible for driving our company towards the Development and Commercialization of our solution, among other things by performing the following in collaboration with our CTO and CSO:

Organization, Governance, HR
  • Assessing optimal team size with respective roles & responsibilities
  • Sourcing and recruiting key initial hires
  • Participating in building company Board of Directors & Advisory Board, and corresponding processes
  • Managing relationship with Legal Advisors

 

Operations (incl. Trials & Regulation)
  • Being involved in daily operations of the company
  • Sourcing potential partners (e.g., academic, clinical, business)
  • Establishing budgets associated with Clinical Trials
  • Designing Regulatory Roadmap for company

 

Product Development
  • Understanding and establishing key consumer behavior guidelines
  • Defining key product features
  • Designing product roadmaps and features
  • Supporting the development of solution prototypes

 

Fundraising Process
  • Assessment of potential sources of funding across Dilutive and Non-Dilutive sources
  • Leadership in the context of the Fundraising Process (especially for Dilutive sources)
  • Supporting CTO & CSO in the context of grant applications

 

Business & Value Creation
  • Identifying and exploring strategic, business and product opportunities
  • Defining IP strategy in collaboration with Legal Advisors
  • Managing Branding and Communications (e.g., establishing brand values, developing a community around the solution, etc.)

 

Ideal Candidate Profile & Skillset:

  • Prior work experience in a leadership role at an early stage neurotechnology (preferably neuromodulation) or implantable medical device company
  • Accomplished individual with interest in driving a NeuroTech/MedTech company towards Commercialization
  • Experience dealing with senior level scientific and technical teams and academic institutions
  • Collaborative and Congenial personality which is able to manage both small and large teams, and has experience in (i) finding consensus and (ii) managing conflicts
  • Established track record of facilitating relationships with key individuals and institutions in healthcare in North America
  • Exposure to Regulatory and Reimbursement pathways in North America
  • Understanding of the importance of optimizing non-dilutive and dilutive sources of funding to finance company growth / Understanding and experience with fundraising process for early stage “R&D” companies (successful experiences while taking a leading role in fundraising for startups a significant asset)
  • Education in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Business, Investments, or related fields
