Position Summary
The Data Operations Specialist position is an exciting opportunity for a professional looking to support the expansion of data management, governance and operations in a nonprofit context. This role is very collaborative in nature working with teams, systems, and data across the Society. This position is highly involved in ensuring compliance with data governance and privacy best practices and identifying causes of and solving data quality issues.
Essential Job Functions
- Execute a range of data governance and hygiene projects throughout the organization.
- Liaise across the organization between programmatic teams and technical teams on technical data requirements, operations, and flows.
- Create and maintain data inventory documenting data held in and across systems.
- Contribute to the development and execution of an organizational data management strategy.
- Help identify opportunities to provide staff training on governance best practice, data hygiene, etc.
- Conduct research to help identify the cause of data collection and quality issues and work to identify solutions to collect clean usable data.
- Conduct research to identify and implement data clean up solutions that can be implemented at scale (e.g., de-duping, standardizing naming conventions).
- Support system integration projects to ensure data is collected in a way that is clean and able to be used for analysis.
- Drafts memos, reports, and/or presentations for varying audiences on clearly communicating data quality findings.
- Assist in the development of project scopes, timelines, lists of deliverables, benchmarks, and project imperatives across departments and programs.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3-5 years of experience or relevant course work in data operations, data governance, data analysis, performance measurement, or research (or equivalent combination of education, internships, and experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong ability to acquire knowledge of the Society’s vision, mission, strategic plan, goals, business operations, and financial management.
- Prior work experience in data governance, business process evaluation and/or data analysis.
- Strong research, data collection and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills to explain technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders.
- A self-starter who takes the initiative to identify problems and opportunities that increase the impact of the analytics team.
- Strong analytical, critical and logical thinking skills for problem solving or working through open ended projects.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills required.
- Must be detail-oriented while able to meet big picture goals and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to organize and set priorities, work independently, and take initiative to meet deadlines.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced team environment is essential.
Location
Remote: Employees can work remotely as part of a 35-hour workweek with core hours from 10am-3pm Eastern time. A reliable high-speed internet connection is essential.
