Job Summary:

The Meyer Lab at Cedars Sinai uses omics and data science to understand basic biology of metabolism and disease. We currently have two NIH funded projects (R35 and R21). We are seeking one computationally focused postdoctoral fellow to work proteome informatics, single cell informatics, single cell multi-omics data integration, or machine learning applied to biological data especially proteomics, metabolomics, genomics, and/or transcriptomics. The ideal candidate will have experience with proteomic data or single cell omics data analysis. The ideal candidate may also have experience or interests with one or more of the following: mass spectrometry based multi-omics (proteomics and metabolomics), machine learning, information theory, computer science, and/or computational neuroscience. Competitive candidates will have experience publishing at least one or more first author papers in the mentioned disciplines as a PhD student.

The candidate is expected to lead their own research projects working closely with the PI, and to help with writing and collecting data for grant applications, both with collaborators and within our own lab.  The postdoctoral fellow will also be responsible for managing collaborative projects with standard or custom experimental pipelines. The candidate should be skilled with python. They may also be fluent in R, JavaScript, java, or other scientific computing languages. The candidate may also be familiar with mass spectrometry data collection. The postdoctoral fellow will work with other lab members who collect data to ensure that experiments align with computational goals. 

Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists, the Research Fellow will perform routine and complex computational research procedures throughout training period. They may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. They will independently analyze and interpret data. They may assist in preparation of grant proposals. They participate in publications and presentations as co-author. They are not responsible for generating grant funds but applying for fellowships is welcome.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • May assist in the preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
  • May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
  • Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator.
  • May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
  • Analyzes interpret, summarizes, and compiles data.
  • Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout the training period.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.

 

Educational Requirements: Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization.

Licenses: N/A

Experience: No prior postdoctoral experience is required. PhD research experience is expected with at least one or two first author publications.
