Neuroscience Research Technician
Berkeley, CA · Full time
About the job
Sonera is building state-of-the-art magnetic sensors that can be used in ambient conditions at room temperature while maintaining high sensitivity. We are looking for a talented and driven research technician to join our research efforts and work closely with our hardware and software engineers towards developing a novel biosensing system using these solid-state magnetic sensors.
The work will initially concentrate on setting up physiological experiments for muscle and heart biomagnetic signals in humans and collecting data using existing third-party systems. As Sonera sensors come online the focus will transition to adapting the experimental pipeline to custom built hardware and providing input on sensor design decisions for effective neuroscience applications.
The ideal candidate will have experience with neuroscience research and collecting physiological data from humans. This person will be comfortable debugging custom experimental setups, improving experimental procedures to best capture human physiology, and spearheading the data collection efforts.
Typical base salary is in the $80,000 to $120,000 range alongside generous equity compensation through participation in Sonera’s Equity Incentive Plan; actual salary can be more or less than the posted range and will be determined based on the individual’s applicable skills, education, qualifications, and experience for the role.
Requirements
- Collect biomagnetic signals from human subjects for various applications (ECG/MCG, EMG/MMG, etc.) as well as data to test and characterize magnetic sensors
- Collect, document, and manage large and complex datasets
- Modify and debug third party systems and custom hardware to ensure high quality data
- Work closely with the neuroscience and engineering teams to facilitate data collection and analysis pipelines and provide feedback towards experimental procedure and sensor design
- Utilize hands-on creative problem solving for rapid testing and prototyping of experimental setups and data collection protocols
- Maintain and test the data acquisition stack
Core Skills And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, an engineering discipline, computer science, or other relevant field
- 3+ years of experience collecting multi-channel physiological time-series data in humans.
- Meticulous organization and communication skills to facilitate analysis of collected data
- Experience submitting, maintaining, and implementing an IRB for human subject testing
- Experience with basic electronic circuits and programming for data analysis.
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, as well as multi-tasking and time management skills
- Experience in magnetic sensing, data engineering, consumer wearables, multimodal sensing, or sensor fusion is a plus
Benefits
- Competitive salary and stock options
- 401(k) with company match
- Health, vision, dental coverage
- Flexible time-off policy, paid parental leave
