The Position

Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) has an opportunity for a Scientist to establish and lead a stem cell biology research laboratory within the Cell Therapy Research department.  We are looking for an emerging leader in the field who has demonstrated an outstanding record of Scientific excellence, effective collaboration, and the ability to inspire, mentor and lead others with less experience and growing in knowledge and capabilities. 

This position will manage 1 to 2 employees and report to a senior level leader (minimally Director) who oversees multiple labs/groups within Cell Therapy. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop an independent research program and lead a department of innovative technical and/or scientific talent in achieving its department objectives and ambitions
  • Design and execute high quality laboratory research through own work and that of direct reports
  • Actively lead the development of publications, patent applications, and internal reports based upon research productivity
  • Collaborate within Cell Therapy and across relevant functional units within the Company (gRED and Genentech) to ensure collective leadership and seamless partnership in support of cell therapy discovery and development
  • Serve on cross-functional project teams representing the Cell Therapy department and liaise regularly with internal and external collaborators to facilitate project 

 

Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent curriculum; minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral experience preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of pluripotent stem cell biology, including reprogramming methods, transcriptional biology and relevant genomic/epigenomics.
  • Demonstrated track record of producing high quality scientific results both as an individual contributor or in a principal, leading role
  • Outstanding scholastic record and technical proficiency, evidenced by a strong publication record and technological innovations
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Proven ability to collaborate in a cross-discipline manner 

 

Principal Scientist

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $143,100-265,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
