SFU’s Institute for Neuroscience and Neurotechnology (INN) is a collective of distinguished researchers and educators who work together across disciplines, institutions and industries to drive progress and innovation in neuroscience and neurotechnology. Our members are passionate about cultivating the INN as a hub for meaningful collaboration and community engagement. The INN’s Community Engagement Manager will play a critical role in the development and implementation of community-engaged research and other community engagement activities. Research projects will include the Brain Resilience Study, a prospective study of British Columbians that aims to understand both the biological and social factors that influence resilience in aging. Reporting to the INN’s Senior Program Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the INN’s community engagement program. The ideal candidate understands the relationship between academic research and its broader communities, is an open and transparent relationship builder, and demonstrates leadership capacity.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary relationship, engagement, and outreach manager for INN’s research and training activities
- Engage with a broad cross-section of the INN community, including researchers, students, community members, donors, hospital and industry partners, and patient advocacy groups, building deep and strong relationships with stakeholders
- Manage day-to-day engagement operations including communications and marketing, event planning, engagement-related financial management and reporting
- Assist in fundraising, evaluation and programming as needed
- Occasional travel requirements within The Greater Vancouver Area
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Communications, Health Sciences, Business Administration, or equivalent)
- 1-2 years’ experience in community engagement
- Experience in community-engaged research an asset
- Experience in science communication an asset
- Excellent partnership mediation skills
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills
- Excellent problem solving, time management and organizational skills
- Ability to build relationships and maintain rapport with stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in diverse team settings
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) or equivalent
This is a 12 month appointment with the possibility of extension dependent upon funding.
