The Position
Summary
This position will play a key role in the newly established department of Cell Therapy in gRED Research Biology. Reporting directly to the Head of Cell Therapy (Vice President, GE level), the selected candidate will assume accountability for the development and research activities of the Stem/Progenitor Cell Biology department within Cell Therapy. Core responsibilities include mentoring, leading and coaching the team in all aspects of achieving organizational mission and vision.
In addition to guiding individual contributors and people managers, this position is expected to hold significant matrix coaching accountabilities in support of the Cell Therapy function’s integration and collaboration with the overall gRED Research team as well as the broader gRED division.
Primary Responsibilities
- Build, develop and guide a department of innovative technical and/or scientific talent in achieving its department objectives including overseeing research programs executed through high quality laboratory research
- Collaborate within Cell Therapy and across the Company (gRED, Genentech and Roche) to ensure collective leadership and seamless partnership in support of cell therapy discovery and development
- Develop effective genomic editing strategies for engineering stem/progenitor cells to address manufacturing and therapeutic challenges.
- Investigate reprogramming methods to derive stem/progenitor cells and determine the resulting impacts on phenotypic state and differentiation potential.
- Lead the application of modern genetic and epigenetic analytical approaches to interrogate the genome integrity of stem/progenitor cells.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant field with a minimum of 3 years of Postdoctoral experience
- Extensive knowledge of applied stem cell/developmental biology and related characterization methods for pluripotent and progenitor cells.
- Demonstrated track record as an effective inclusive leader
- A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience (can include Ph.D. work & Postdoctoral Fellowship) in a relevant field, of which at least 5 years of industry experience is preferred..
- A minimum of 8 years of progressively increasing level of responsibility in people leadership
- Reputation and credibility as an emerging leader in the field, evidenced by a strong publication record or validated contributions in advancing science
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $177,200 – $329,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
