Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Guilford, CT (on-site)
Job Type: Contract 6 months
Summary:
This position is for a Mechanical Engineer with the ability to generate innovative concepts and develop new products from concept through production. Leadership, attention to detail, organization, and general technical knowledge in a broad set of design disciplines are key attributes of the preferred candidate. The Mechanical Engineer will be successful if they are able to excel in a fast paced cross-functional environment, developing and maintaining unique and robust parts and designs.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute basic designs for complex medical imaging systems backed by thorough engineering analysis from physical testing and FEA simulations.
- Design, fabricate, test, and validate multiple small-scale designs for function and performance from concept through production.
- For individual parts and sub-assemblies, thoroughly document and support each of the above from concept to architecture, through manufacturing, and use basic designs in conjunction with cross-functional input from Commercial, Clinical, Quality, Manufacturing, and HW/SW teams.
- Productize basic designs in conjunction with cross-functional input from Commercial, Clinical, Quality, Manufacturing, Hardware and Software teams.
Knowledge And Skill:
- Ability to manage multiple tasks to ensure timely fulfillment of project objectives and deliverables
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to provide status of all responsible projects
- Ability to lead projects internally and with 3rd party vendors
- Knowledge of fabrication of 3D models and prototypes for testing and evaluation utilizing a variety of techniques including 3D printing, sheet metal and machining
- General working knowledge of product design using injection molding, casting, machining and sheet metal fabrication of parts that meet functional requirements and are suited for mass production
- Risk management and FMEA analysis
- Ability to generate documentation of parts and assemblies with functional tolerances and detailing for prototypes and production
- Experience with new product development
- Typical Tools, Technologies
- Standard solid modeling CAD package such as SolidWorks or ProE
- Familiarity with standard FEA software such as SolidWorks Simulation, and/or ANSYS
Education/Experience Required:
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering
- 3-5 years of experience or equivalent
Physical Demands:
- Ability to speak, write, and use all office equipment including scanner and printer, phone, computer, etc.
- Ability to perform task that involve light lifting
- Available to work in the Guilford office
