The Position
The Immunology group in Translational Medicine at Genentech is seeking a highly talented, driven and motivated lab-based Scientist to support our research and clinical development activities in gastrointestinal and fibrotic diseases. Our department is responsible for defining biomarker and personalized healthcare strategies in our clinical trials, and interpreting biomarker results to support biological rationale and decision making. Through our clinical trials, as well as our translational research efforts, our group identifies and implements biomarkers to evaluate disease heterogeneity, target-engagement, mechanism of action, and disease modification.
The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and collaboratively on pipeline projects and disease area activities to support clinical development, providing both scientific and technical expertise and generating solid data. Excellent communication skills, will facilitate fruitful and open collaborations with other functions including Research, Bioanalytical Assay Science, Diagnostics, Clinical Pharmacology, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. The successful candidate will be expected to present their work to the department, cross-functional teams, internal review committees and external conferences.
Responsibilities
- Discover and evaluate candidate biomarkers
- Develop and implement biomarker assays in preclinical models and clinical trials
- Evaluate new technologies as potential novel biomarker assay platforms
- Analyze large data sets using available analysis tools
- Documents experiments and studies in lab notebook
- Communicates findings to their scientist/manager
- Coordinates interdepartmental and external collaborations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Strong candidates for this position will meet most of the following requirements:
- BS and/or MS in pharmacology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in inflammation and/or fibrotic disease research
- Familiarity with a broad spectrum of laboratory techniques, such as cell culture, ELISA, qPCR, cytokine profiling, LC/MS, flow cytometry, NGS, and human whole blood assays
- Experience with analysis of data from genomic sequencing, scRNA-seq, TCR-seq, CITE-seq or spatial transcriptomics is a plus.
- Able to Independently design, execute and interpret experiments.
- Have excellent communication and time management skills and be willing to work in a collaborative environment.
- Can present their research clearly and effectively.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $100,000- $185,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
