Research Scientist Intern, Human-AI Interaction (PhD)
Location: Redmond, WA
Our team in Meta Reality Labs Research brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and designers to create novel user experiences interacting with contextual AI. As a research Intern at Facebook Reality Labs Research, you will tackle the research questions about how people and AI agents collaborate and interact through various interfaces. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Research Scientist Intern, Human-AI Interaction (PhD) Responsibilities
- Take big problems and deliver clear, compelling, and creative proposals for how to solve them at scale
- Create a concrete research plan for your own topic during the internship, the plan needs to synthesize the input from the team, the potential impact, and your own perspective and expertise.
- Focus on impact, identifying and applying constraints lead to clear outcomes quickly.
- Carry out the research plan through a mixture of skills and methodologies, from designing and implementing the prototype to conducting user studies and data analysis.
- Collaborate with other researchers, designers, and engineers to develop, prototype, and test and iteration the solutions.
- Produce publishable research in top-tier journals or at leading international conferences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in Human AI interaction, AI/ML, Human-computer interaction, Human-robot interaction or related field.
- 3+ years of research experience in HAI, HCI, AI or related fields, as shown in the prior publications and portfolio.
- 3+ years of experience with programming languages such as Python, Javascript, C# or similar languages.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with LLMs, Prompt Engineering and related libraries and techniques.
- Familiarity with AI libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.

$7,500/month to $11,333/month + benefits
Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base salary, Meta offers benefits.
