Organization Overview

Presidio Medical is developing a novel Ultra Low Frequency (ULMTM) neuromodulation technology with an initial clinical target of addressing chronic pain, one of the most frequent reasons for doctor’s visits each year. Presidio is led by a highly experienced leadership team with a successful track record of medical device commercialization with deep expertise in pain management and neurostimulation.  This expertise has allowed Presidio to develop a comprehensive design and development plan and move quickly to prototype builds, animal studies, clinical ready product, and into clinical use.  These systems have been used successfully in bench-top and animal studies to confirm proof of concept and preliminary safety profile. The systems have also been used in an initial clinical study with excellent outcomes. The team is now working on the next generation system for additional clinical work. The existing team comprises a highly functional group of motivated, multitalented individuals working toward the company goal of bringing a potentially game-changing technology to fruition for individuals with chronic pain. Presidio Medical is located in South San Francisco.

 

Job Summary:

The R&D Research Engineering Intern will provide support for projects and take ownership of vital research questions. They would play a role in performing electrochemical testing of neuromodulation systems for regulatory submissions, authoring components of pre-clinical documents, writing custom data analysis software, processing and analyzing benchtop, pre-clinical, and clinical data, summarizing results of experiments, and proposing next-step experiments to improve understanding and outcomes of the neuromodulation system and its impact on biology.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with engineering team to execute and verify operation of next generation neuromodulation device
  • Interdisciplinary role that works with all departments to assure that all the components converge in a timely manner and assures that products are of highest quality and meet the needs of our clinicians and patients.
  • Contributes to design verification and validation test requirements, including the development of test plans, test protocols, and test reports.
  • Executes tests, collects data, and analyzes results on a suite of engineering tests to be used to provide information for internal development and regulatory efforts
  • Performs electrochemical characterization tests to further understanding of novel neuromodulation device

 

Qualification Requirements:

Experience:
  • Previous industry engineering experience internship, experience in medical devices preferred.

 

Knowledge/skills/Abilities:

Required
  • The ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a spirit of teamwork.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Powerpoint

 

Nice-to-have
  • Experience in a biomedical research lab
  • Proficiency in programming (Python) and data structures packages (pandas)
  • Experience with data visualization packages (matplotlib, bokeh, seaborn)
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data
  • General knowledge in chemistry and/or electrochemistry

 

Education:

  • Working towards Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering or Science

 

Physical Demands:

  • Varied sitting, standing and walking
  • Ability to lift and carry 20lbs. or less

 

Additional Position Details:

  • Position is in South San Francisco.
  • Transportation is available between South San Francisco Caltrain or BART stations, but a car is recommended.
  • Position is full time (40 hours/week). Scheduling allowances can be made to accommodate necessary coursework.
  • On-site training will be provided for all required tasks
  • Start and end dates to be determined based on candidate’s schedule requirements
