The Apple Vision Science group is growing! We are looking for a motivated vision scientist to support the advancement of sophisticated imaging and display technologies for current and future Apple products. The team works in a highly collaborative and hands-on environment that combines scientific and engineering excellence, creativity, and innovation in the interdisciplinary areas of vision science, image processing, color science, neuroscience, and optics. We are looking for a person who is passionate about the development, prototyping, and implementation of technologies to enable the best front-of-screen user experience of Apple products.
Key Qualifications
- Deep and broad knowledge of human vision and visual optics
- Experience in the design, implementation, and analysis of user studies of human perception and/or visual performance
- Familiarity with optometric / ophthalmic methods and products
- Experience in mathematical / computational modeling of vision using MATLAB or similar simulation / modeling tools
- Experience with optical design software e.g., Zemax
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, and the ability to interact multi-functionally
Description
- Apply knowledge of human vision and human visual optics to design and evaluate sophisticated display technologies in relation to visual experience
- Design, conduct, and analyze controlled user studies of human perception and/or visual performance
- Review archival visual optics data and literature to answer fundamental image quality questions
- Leverage experience in mathematical / computational modeling of vision, and proficiency in MATLAB or similar simulation / modeling tools, to advance display quality metrics
- Guide feature and specification definition for future products based on visual optics and vision science
- Develop new products, features, and technologies based on visual optics and vision science
Education & Experience
BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
Additional Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Psychophysics Toolbox, PsychoPy, QUEST+, or similar tools
- Knowledge of linear systems theory, Fourier analysis, and digital filtering
- Basic understanding of digital imaging and display software and hardware
- Experience with virtual / augmented reality devices
- Experience with eye-tracking technology
- Experience in developing apps for macOS or iOS
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $138,900.00 and $256,500.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
