Research Scientist – Interdisciplinary Neuromorphic Project

The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) operates one of the most powerful supercomputing infrastructures in Europe and makes it available to researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich, in Germany and Europe. The JSC’s research program includes the development of future computer architectures. JSC and the Institute for Neuroscience and Medicine (INM-6) have started, in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University, Manchester University and Heidelberg University, the “Advanced Computing Architecture” project, which aims to develop and implement a novel neuromorphic computer architecture through a co-design approach. Primary test cases for this new system will be selected from the field of neuroscience.

We are looking to recruit as soon as possible a

Research scientist; Computer Science, Neuroscience, Computational Science, Mathematics

Your Job:

  • Implement and execute the co-design process, in which application experts provide their needs and computer architecture and technology experts explore the relevant design space
  • Contribute to the design of a new inter-node network architecture, its implementation, testing, demonstration and validation
  • Perform a comparative analysis between the new inter-node network architecture and existing network architectures and technologies
  • Prepare the operation of prototype systems

Your Profile:

  • University degree in one of the disciplines listed above
  • Strong background in computer architectures with experience in network architectures and technologies being desirable
  • Experience in co-design is desirable
  • Knowledge in the area of computational neuroscience is desirable
  • Experience in programming in C/C++ and in using scripting languages commonly used on Unix systems
  • Experience in programming and using parallel computer architectures
  • Good command of English
  • Ability and willingness to work in an international, interdisciplinary and distributed team, as well as to assume responsibility

Note that it is not necessary to fulfil all of these requirements in order to be considered for the position.
