Job Summary:
Briefly state the main purpose and scope of the job.
Use multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to design and develop innovative medical devices or components/subsystems in support of company’s strategic plan.
Job Duties:
List the significant/essential duties, tasks or responsibilities which employees in this position are required to perform.
• Research, design, develop and evaluate medical device designs to meet user needs
• Establish requirements and specifications for these devices including justification and supportive testing
• Use experimental, empirical and numerical analysis to evaluate designs. Lead test method and model development.
• Investigate issues and define root causes in complex systems
• Identify and mitigate project risks
• Work with internal departments and external vendors to obtain prototype parts
• Lead design reviews and support physician visits.
• Maintain a detailed understanding of the developing clinical environment (i.e. current treatment methods, evolving clinical needs etc.).
• Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
• Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide work direction to other members of engineering staff
Equipment: List the type of equipment the incumbent will utilize in this position.
May, on occasion, work with a variety of production equipment, small hand tools, test equipment, and precision measuring instruments. Also uses standard office equipment such as telephone, fax/copier, and a personal computer with standard office software.
Working Conditions:

Work environment varies from well lighted office/cubicle, low to moderate noise level, to a variety of conditions caused by travel requirements such as customer offices, research labs, hospitals, hotels, use of automobiles, commercial travel, weather, etc.
Physical Demands:
Describe the physical demands representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Activities require a significant amount of sitting in front of a computer monitor, some standing and walking. Significant use of hands and arms, plus finger dexterity to reach, point, write, type, operate a computer and other office equipment. Performs tasks that regularly require good correctable vision and hand/eye coordination. Activities also require significant use of voice and hearing for discussions with other employees.
Qualifications:
Describe the minimum education and experience, including knowledge, skills and abilities, required to successfully perform the job. List any certificates, license, and/or registrations required.
General Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering) plus 7+ years of related work experience
• Experience with catheter design and electrical components preferred
• Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability preferred.
• Experience with modeling tools like Solid Works, COMSOL, Ansys preferred
• Experience with MATLAB, Labview, and Python preferred
• Ability to lead small teams and to work within large cross-functional teams as an individual contributor and informal leader in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors
• Knowledge and understanding of a variety of engineering disciplines, theories and concepts, to support development of innovative approaches to problem solving
• Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
• Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
• Exposure to latest design tools and techniques (six sigma, DFM, analytical design)
• Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
• Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally.
• Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.
